A notice was issued for informing the shipping industry about the requirement Regulation 14.1, Annex VI of MARPOL 73/78 for the ships are installed with the EGCS.

The discharge of washwater from EGCS open loop system in the Malaysian Waters has been prohibited by Malaysia.

Ships that will be calling to the Ports of Malaysia have been suggested to switch to fuel oil that are compliant or to switch to close loop system before they enter Malaysian Waters and Ports.

The ship mangers/owners of the Malaysian ships that have EGCS with open loop systems installed in them are suggested to see if there are foreign ports where the discharge of wash water from open loop system is prohibited.
