According to the new Economic Impact Analysis released by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) which is the largest cruise industry trade association of the world, the cruise industry in the US contibuted more than $52.7 billion of the total contributions in 2018 which is an increase of about 10 percent in comparison to 2016.
The popularity of cruise to and from the US had been increasing and this can be clearly seen in the reports and so is the inseparable relation between the growth of the industry and it’s economic impact in the nation is visible. About 13 million cruise passengers from all around the world have embarked from the US ports in 2018 which is more by nine percent from 2016.
“There’s no doubting the enormity of the cruise industry’s contributions to the U.S. and global economies. The 2018 Economic Impact Analysis highlights the incredible impact the industry continues to have on American businesses and individuals, as well as the growing popularity of cruising amongst passengers of all nationalities and backgrounds,” said Kelly Craighead, CLIA’s president and CEO. “There is simply no better way to experience the world, and the cruise industry is proud to have such a positive impact on the people and communities we visit here in the United States.”
Increase in embarkations also increases the onshore spending. Cruise lines, passengers and crew spent $23.96 billion in the US in 2018 which is a 33 percent raise since 2010. Moreover, the US expenditure of the cruise industry touched a new high by the generation of 421,711 jobs in the US and also making a contribution of over $23.15 billion in wages and salaries which is an increase of about 13 percent since 2016.
