Kawasaki Heavy Industries Delivers 61,000 DWT Bulk Carrier ‘African Cardinal’

The bulk carrier African Cardinal which has a capacity of 61,000 DWT (Kawasaki hull No. 8038, DACKS hull No. DE056) has been delivered by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. It is for the MARITIME S.A. at the Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (DACKS). This is located in Dalian City, China and is jointly operated by China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited (China COSCO Shipping).

The ship features a flush deck with a forecastle and five holds which can transport optimum amount of grains, coal, ores and steel products. For the ports that do not have cargo handling facility, it has four 30-ton deck cranes installed along the center in between the hatch covers that will help in cargo loading and unloading.

Various technologies like an energy-saving, electronically-controlled main diesel engine, a bow designed to reduce wave resistance, high propulsive efficiency propellers, and the Kawasaki rudder bulb system with fins (RBS-F) and semi-duct system with contra fins (SDS-F) are present in the vessel so as to maximise the fuel economy and to enhance the propulsion performance.

Various technologies are present in the ship that will not only reduce the fuel consumption but also carbon dioxide emission, hence complying with the requirements of EEDI.
