The keel of OHT’s new heavy installation crane vessel Alfa Lift which is designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions BV has been laid at China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) in China.
The fabricated blocks have come together for the assembly in the dry dock for the first time. Weeks ahead of the scheduled time, the vessel will begin to take shape. After the steel cutting ceremony that took place on 1st Math this year, this is the next major step for bringing the Alfa Lift to the market.
On the 25th of September, the keel laying ceremony marked a great milestone. OHT’s CEO Torgeir Ramstad commented that the people at CMHI and the supplier have worked hard for the progress ever since the first milestone was achieved in March.
“We have worked together with the shipyard in an open and cooperative way to ensure the utmost quality of construction. Because OHT places a high degree of importance on quality” said Mr. Ramstad.
“According to our customers our vessel will be ground-breaking and will serve the growing offshore wind market for decades to come. The word “growing” is perhaps not precise enough to describe what is happening in the offshore wind market”.
The Ulstein Designed Alfa Lift will be the world’s largest and the most innovative, custom made offshore wind foundation installation vessel. The launching ceremony in 2020 will the next major step. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered in 2021.
