Albwardy Damen Wins ‘Shipyard Of The Year’ Award At Seatrade Maritime Awards

At the first evening of UAE Maritime Week that was the 16th Seatrade Maritime Awards Middle East, Indian Subcontinent & Africa Albwardy Damen was given the award of the Shipyard of the Year. In these events the personalities and organisations that have contributed or have had a great impact on the regional market are recognized.

Lars Seistrup, managing director Albwardy Damen, declared: “It is a huge honour to win this prestigious award for the second year running. On behalf of our 1,200 staff I would like to thank our customers for their trust in our services. The marine industry is changing rapidly, margins are tight and owners are demanding high quality, safe and efficient vessels as standard. As a service provider to the marine industry we constantly strive to maintain a cost-efficient business and understand the needs of our customers. This award affirms the success of our efforts in both our new build and repair departments.”

A joint venture of Albwardy Investment of Dubai and Damen Shipyards Group of Netherlands, Albwardy Damen has been in UAE for over 40 years now and is also the leading shipyard of the Middle East. It operates in Dubai, Fujairah and Sharjah in UAE and Sohar and Salalah in Oman. It has repaired more than 400 vessels of all sizes from tugs to VLCCs in an year. It also built 8 new vessels in the year 2018 which was delivered to different parts of the world.

Alot of investment has been made since 2014 for training the staff and developing the in house talent and skills. A huge in house workforce has been developed than can cover not only the full fledged shipbuilding but also repairing. Almost all the work is done in UAE and Oman by using the people and equipments owned by Albwardy Damen.

For ballast water treatment (BWT) retrofits and large pipe renewal scheme on tankers, heavy investments were made by Albwardy Damen in 2019 on 3D scanning and engineering softwares. With two BWT retrofits being completed with 3D scanning, engineering, CNC-controlled piping production and installation, we can say that has been very successful.

The company is also certified for the ISO 14001 management system as it takes it’s responsibility towards the environment also very seriously. It’s safety records are also excellent.
